The Big Picture of Student Ministry at Dogwood

The Dogwood Student Ministry exists to:

Lead Middle School and High School students
into a real and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

We believe that there is no greater purpose than to help these students begin their personal relationship with Christ.  But notice that we say that we want to “lead” them.  We cannot make that decision for them and we don’t want to force them to either.  We want to come along side of you as the parents to encourage their movement toward God.  Not only do we want to see them begin that relationship with Christ but we want to help them to grow closer to Christ every day.  We want these students to know what they have committed to is real and Christ wants to continue to guide their lives well after High school.  We have the incredible privilege of equipping students for the journey of walking with Jesus every day.

We accomplish this through ENVIRONMENTS.

The structure for DSM centers on creating effective environments where students can connect with God and His life-changing truths and with one another.  Each of these environments fulfills a specific need and work together to form the big picture of ministry.

The Large Group environment allows students to gather corporately for worship and bible teaching.

The Small group environment creates a more intimate setting where students share thoughts, concerns, and life together.  This is where a students really gets a sense of belonging and study God's Word together.

The Social Interaction environment offers a safe place to connect relationally in an unstructured time.

As you can see, to go without one of these can leave a piece of what it means to grow in Christ out.  The best example of this is: you can come to DSM worship for months and have a great time and learn a lot but never feel connected to other students.  It’s way too easy to just be part of the crowd.  However, in small group (c-group) students are known by name and cared for as individuals.
